Danish universities take a different approach to education, emphasising on independent learning and project-oriented learning which is suitable for a fruitful international undergraduate study experience. Most libraries are accessible for free to all students. 

As one of the greenest countries in the world, Denmark provides a high standard of living in a secure and clean environment. Students also have approximately 130 English-medium programmes to choose from. Located in Northern Europe, the country is an ideal gateway to Europe and Scandinavia.

Travel Requirements

Malaysian citizens do not need a visa in order to enter Denmark. However, you will need to get a residence permit before entering. The university which you have enrolled in will initiate the application by filling in a form which they will then forward to you to complete in full.

You must submit the form to the embassy of Denmark along with:

• Evidence of having been enrolled in a recognised institution in Denmark full-time
• A copy of your passport and two passport size photographs
• A copy of your health insurance plan
• Evidence of sufficient funds for all costs for your stay (around €3,360 per semester or €6,720 per year)
• Accommodation details

You are advised to allow two months’ time for application processing.

Language of Instruction

Predominantly Danish. Click here for all the courses offered in English. You will need to have proof of proficiency in English as well as Danish (for courses taught in Danish) such as IELTS and the Study Test in Danish as a Second Language.

Work Options

International students can work for up to 15 hours per week during the academic year and full time during the summer holidays (June, July and August). Minimum wage is approximately €12 per hour. The permission to work is part of the residence permit. Thus, students need not apply for a work permit. Upon graduation, they are allowed to remain in the country for up to six months to job-hunt.

Tuition Fees

Annual tuition fees are around €9,100 to €15,300 per year but may vary according to the course studied.

Living in Denmark

The average student will need about €500 to €800 per month for accommodation and other basic necessities. Institutions will extend help to international students in finding a place to stay during their studies in Denmark. Among some of the options are a room in the halls of residence, a privately house, flat or room. Rent for a room can set you back €200 to €500 per month.

Airfare

Tickets can be purchased at RM2,500 onwards for a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Copenhagen via Amsterdam.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is not compulsory but you should obtain private health insurance when you arrive. If you choose to purchase insurance in Malaysia, make sure that it provides international coverage.

Scholarships

You can apply for scholarships from the Danish Ministry of Education, the various universities and through the Erasmus Mundus scheme.
